Komei Nakatani, an internationally active artist, creates expressionistic works that explode with color and emotion.
Temporarily living in Kamakura, Japan's ancient capital, Nakatani has traveled and painted all over America, Europe and Japan. He grew up in California, where he won 1st Prize in the California High School Art Contest and majored in art at U.C. Santa Cruz. Nakatani also spent two years in the mid-1980's in Spain, France and the Netherlands studying painting. He resided in New York, USA from 1995 to 1998. And also, Nakatani has traveled in West Africa, such as Senegal,
Cote D'Ivoire(Ivory Coast) and Nigeria.
This combination of a Japanese background and extensive experience in the U.S. and Europe inspires Nakatani to paint in a contemporary Western style that nevertheless contains unmistakable Asian sensibilities.
